My career in education has reinforced my belief in public service. I taught in the Oxnard Union High School District for 25 years where I developed a passion for helping young people achieve their dreams.
Tim Flynn was born in Santa Barbara California. He is the eldest of six children born to John and Diane Flynn, also of Oxnard, California. He attended the Boy Scout Jamboree in Farragut State Park, Idaho in 1973.
Tim spent many years campaigning with his father, former County Supervisor John Flynn, and especially enjoyed going door-to-door to meet the voters. In 1984, he was awarded a Rotary International Graduate Fellowship to study at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Bonn, West Germany. After earning an M.A. in International Affairs, Tim headed back home to California to pursue a career in business. He briefly worked in the title insurance industry, and later worked for Business International of the Economist Group of London in San Francisco, California. In 1993, Tim earned a secondary teaching credential in social science from San Francisco State University. He taught Economics, Government and International Relations at George Washington and Lowell Academic High Schools in San Francisco, California.
Since 1993, Tim has taught German and Social Science subjects in the Oxnard Union High School District and Political Science at Oxnard College. He served on the Oxnard City Council from 2004-2008. In 2012, Tim was elected Mayor and was re-elected in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
